Claire is now a teacher; she was previously a barrister specialising in public law, human-rights law and employment and discrimination law at Blackstone Chambers, where she advised public bodies and private clients on sensible decision-making, including compliance with the Human Rights Act, Data Protection Act and employment legislation. Her clients included the Home Office, Ministry of Justice, Parole Board, Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, Law Society and General Medical Council. She has also been a trustee of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator for Higher Education. She is working on a PhD entitled The Law of Adoption in the Old Babylonian Period at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
