Keira Bell

Mental healthcare advocate

Keira is a young woman in the UK who went through the process of attempting to change her sex as a teenager through the NHS Tavistock’s gender service. Her sex remains unchanged. However, her body and her everyday life are now permanently affected by the extremely unhealthy path that she went down, of drugs and surgery in place of therapy. She has come to realise that there were underlying factors behind this decision, not that her sex was wrong. Sex is concrete and it does matter.

“Sex matters because it is at the very core of our being in life. Females and males have bodies that function very differently and it matters to health and safety and will naturally dictate the experiences and interactions we have with one another. I believe that it is extremely important for us to see the mind and body as one, working together.”
