About the webinar
Since our petition was launched in early November, more than 38,000 people have signed, calling on the government to update the Equality Act 2010 to make clear that the protected characteristic of “sex” means biological sex, and is not modified by the holding of a gender recognition certificate.
We aim to get to 100,000 signatures, so that the petition will be considered for a debate in Parliament. To do this we need people to champion the petition to a wider audience.
Can you help to get the petition’s message to more people?
This webinar is a chance to hear from two experienced street campaigners, special guests who you may know from their Twitter handles: @MsGiveZeroFox, also known as Artless Feckleblossom, and @satiricole, the writer and artist Nicole Jones. They will talk about their experience of how to engage and educate people in just a minute or two – and motivate them to take action.
Sex Matters Executive Director Maya Forstater will talk about the Sex Matters petition: Why did we decide that this was the best way forward right now? We’ve written a briefing to explain our thinking, and Maya will explain more about the legal strategy behind our campaign to #MakeTheEqualityActClear.
When you register, you can also submit questions about the legal and policy thinking behind the petition, or about about how to campaign in person, and we will answer them in the webinar.
We will also share details of how to get hold of petition cards to give to people in person.
