Letter to the Joint Committee on Human Rights and the Women and Equalities Committee

We wrote to the committees’ chairs to say that the letter from Dr Michael O’Flaherty, the Council of Europe’s human rights commissioner, about the implementation of the Equality Act 2010, in light of the Supreme Court’s judgment in For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers [2025] UKSC 16, is fundamentally misconceived. We asked the committees to be robust in recognising that UK legislation enabling (and in some cases requiring) single-sex and separate-sex services protects everyone’s rights.
