Protect children from trans ideology – send an email today

Will you take two minutes to send an email to the UK delegation on the Council of Europe?

Thank you to all those who sent emails. Athena Forum reported on X that, as expected, the resolution to ban “conversion practices” in the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly was passed.

The Council of Europe is an intergovernmental body tasked with upholding human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe over its 46 member states. The UK is a member.

Next week, British parliamentarians who represent us there will vote on a shocking resolution which, if passed, will make it even harder to help children who are confused about their sex.

Athena Forum, a new organisation that we collaborate with in Europe, has made a brilliant tool that lets you email those delegates, and it takes less than two minutes. Sex Matters has already written – will you add your voice to ours?

Faika El-Nagashi, founder of Athena Forum, explains:

“We have to act now. British Parliamentarians are actively shaping European transactivist policy through the Council of Europe, while many other delegates lack a clear understanding of these issues and have never sat through a substantive debate on them.

“UK Labour MP Kate Osborne tabled a resolution on conversion therapy bans with gender identity and gender expression, and it passed committee unanimously. The Council of Europe’s Parliament will vote on this resolution on 29th January.

“It calls for criminal sanctions on mental-health professionals, educators, parents and social workers who do not affirm a child’s self-declared trans identity. It proposes mandatory training and public awareness campaigns, and mandatory sex-education on gender identity. It is pure ideological overreach.

Delegates will vote on this on 29th January. They need to hear from you. Join our campaign and write to them today.”

The Athena template lets you write to the head of the UK delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Lord Carwyn Jones, and the chair of each political group across national delegations (most of the UK politicians are part of SOC or ALDE).

Please take action now – your email will join others from across Europe!

More action

If you have a couple more minutes, it’s worth writing directly to individual UK delegates, focusing on those most relevant to your concern.

Find their individual details by clicking on their names, or use our template to send the Athena email to groups of politicians by party – the email will open in your email app so you can edit the text and add your signature.

It’s especially valuable to write if you’re lesbian or gay, to explain that this is not about banning “conversion therapy” for homosexuality, but making sure that children who think they might be same-sex attracted are not pushed towards trans identities.

I am writing to you as the Conservative group in the UK delegation to the Council of Europe, ahead of an upcoming vote in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that deserves the full attention of every delegate. On 29 January 2026, the PACE will vote on the resolution “For a ban on conversion practices.” (https://rm.coe.int/doc-for-a-ban-on-conversion-practices-draft-report/4880299b1c)

While the stated aim of the resolution may appear commendable, it is not a narrow ban on abuse and its content reveals serious issues that demand further scrutiny. The resolution:

• expands “conversion practices” beyond sexual orientation to include gender identity and gender expression, concepts that remain ideologically contested and medically undefined.
• seeks criminal sanctions against mental health professionals, educators, parents and social workers who do not affirm a child’s declared trans identity.
• proposes state-enforced training and ideological compliance across schools, healthcare, social services, law enforcement, courts and religious organisations.
• frames disagreement with gender identity doctrine as harm, chilling debate and undermining evidence-based care, particularly for vulnerable children and adolescents.

This ideological overreach places vulnerable children and adults, including lesbian and gay youth, at risk, chills the work of therapists and teachers and overrides parents’ rights to act in their child’s best interests.

I therefore urge you to vote NO on this resolution. Could you please confirm your position on this issue?

For more information, I encourage you to review the briefing provided by the Athena Forum (https://athena-forum.eu/), a European initiative for sex-based rights, democratic values and political courage: https://athena-forum.eu/publications/briefing-a-deceptive-label-on-conversion-therapy-bans/.

Attendance and engagement by delegates at the upcoming Assembly session will be crucial. May I ask whether we can count on your support in this matter?

Thank you for your time and attention.
