Thank you to everyone who wrote to their MPs – this campaign has now finished.
In April 2025, the Supreme Court confirmed that in the Equality Act, “woman” means female: laws about single-sex spaces are based on sex, not gender identity. But a year later women and girls are still waiting for organisations to respect their rights.
The law is clear. Yet many employers, service providers and public bodies are still ignoring it. The government delayed more than seven months before agreeing to lay guidance produced by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) before Parliament. That delay has been used as an excuse by organisations all over the country as an excuse for inaction.
Sex Matters’ new booklet, One year later, shows the harm this is causing to women in everyday life.
